S&S, 06-17 4-1/8" stroke flywheel assembly

For 111" engines. S&S connecting rods do not have tapered piston pin ends and are not compatible with stock H-D pistons or stock H-D sprocket shaft bearings. Balanced to 1035 grams total piston weight. Note: Engines with a stroke greater than 4" may require S&S piston oil jets and cutouts in the piston skirt to prevent piston to jet contact. Note: S&S crankpins allow the use of replaceable bearing rings at the bottom of the connecting rods. The first generation of S&S crankpins, which were used until 2012, had a diameter of 1.500". The second generation of crankpins, used since 2013, has the larger 1.671" OEM diameter crankpins. Now S&S and OEM crankpins are identical in diameter, so now S&S parts can be used to convert stock H-D flywheels, something that was not possible before as H-D conversion parts were and are not available. Note: The following information is for 03-17 models. S&S designed these flywheels to work with a Timken sprocket shaft bearing. They fit all 99-02 model year S&S cases without modification. The stock H-D 03-17 Twin Cam engines use the same roller bearing for the sprocket shaft as for the pinion shaft, a cost saving but weaker solution.
It is possible to use the stock 03-17 weak pinion shaft bearing (OEM H-D 24004-03B) with S&S flywheels in 03-17 stock housings. However, S&S believes that this roller bearing is not up to the lateral loads of a high performance engine. S&S will not accept warranty claims for applications using the OEM 24004-03B/24605-07 03-17 pinion shaft roller bearing assembly. The JIMS conversion kit fmc-978-517 is available for conversion to the pre-2003 pinion shaft bearing. This kit contains a tool, a Timken bearing and a steel crankcase bearing insert for one engine. Only the bearing inserts are available as Fmc 978-519, only the bearings are available as Fmc508-960. Note: In all applications, the technician must be able to evaluate the components for suitability in combination with the other engine components prior to installation. It is important that a competent mechanic carries out the installation and makes the necessary adjustments.
